The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips, released on November 7, 2023, introduced Apple's next generation of 3-nanometer architecture Apple Silicon. These updates provided substantial performance leaps, a new color option (Space Black), and, for the 14-inch model, a new entry-level configuration featuring the standard M3 chip.
Key Features and Connectivity
M3 Family of Chips: The shift to 3-nanometer technology delivered faster CPU performance, dramatically faster GPU performance with features like Dynamic Caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and ray tracing for professional apps and gaming.
Design and New Colors: The enclosure remained the same design as the 2021/2023 models. The M3 Pro and M3 Max models introduced a new premium Space Black finish (along with Silver), which featured an anodization seal to help reduce fingerprints. The standard M3 model was available in Space Gray and Silver.
Brighter SDR Display: All models featured displays that were 20% brighter for standard (SDR) content (up to 600 nits).
Entry-Level M3 14-inch Model: A new configuration using the standard M3 chip was introduced, replacing the lower-end 13-inch Pro model and offering the modern design, MagSafe, and port selection at a lower entry price point.
Ports: The comprehensive selection of ports was retained:
MagSafe 3 power port
HDMI 2.1 port (supporting up to 8K external displays at 60Hz or 4K at 240Hz)
SDXC card slot
Three Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB-C connector)
3.5 mm headphone jack.
Keyboard: Retained the physical function keys, Touch ID sensor, and reliable scissor-mechanism "Magic Keyboard", without the Touch Bar.
